Soulskin is the first single from the EP ‘Under the Waves’ that will be released December 2024. inspired by generations of women in my family that lived next to the sea, waiting for their husbands, sons and fathers to come back from the ocean. Waiting in solitude shows where you lost track (of life/of your own path/of your hopes & dreams) and the journey inward gives guidance. This made the women in my family pretty strong and resilient.

This is a song about that journey, about invisible ancestral forces, their stories and about the guidance from within. A meditative atmosphere that lets you feel the power of the ocean and helps you drift off to inner realms. Recorded in 432Hz to make you feel relaxed & at ease.

The cover of the Soulskin single is made with old slide photo’s my grandfather left me. Stored in a huge old suitcase, they have been waiting for the right moment to step back into the light. This is in a way a collab between my grandfather and me. On the cover of Soulskin is my dad holding white pigeons when he was 16 years old (early ‘60’s). It’s one of the pictures out of my grandfather’s collection that I absolutely love! In the background is his picture of Scheveningen in the ‘60’s.

I love to play with layers: in songs and in images! And I love the idea that there could be a connection between things right trough the concept of time and space:)

An Roubos about Salon Perdu

♥ I have always loved those magical mirror tents!

Those itinerant round dance salons with wooden walls and cut mirrors. As part of a fair or circus: Salon Perdu (mirror tent). Magic! A place for dancing and partying. Wooden niches at the edges and mirrors to reflect reality, but from a different perspective.

The songs I write reflect parts of me. Parts that I can sometimes only see by looking at them from a different angle and that sometimes change character during writing.

Salon perdu can also be translated as ‘forgotten room’. While as a child you often already know and feel clearly which path you want to walk in life. You know the depths of your soul, but you lose that sharp look as you get older. You lose sight of your dream and your path. You put the thoughts in a room in your head or in your heart and forget about this room. I had almost forgotten the existence of my dream, but I found my way back to it.

I sang a lot between the age of 16-24, but I lost my voice. The years that followed I gave up singing altogether. Untill a friend suggested, years later, that my lost voice might be more about fear than technique. I decided to work on that and go past the fear and I rediscovered my sound and voice! I cherish singing now and love using my voice to reach out. I write songs to make sense of my racing head and heart ♥

In 2020 I wrote new songs for the first time in years and recorded them in the studio of Jochen Oosting (Jogo Music). Lights & ballerinas is the first song to be released as a (Christmas) single, followed by the EP. In the summer of 2024, ‘On the Line’ was followed up with songs recorded for the EP ‘Under the Waves’, which will be released 2025 Under the name ‘Salon Perdu, in reference to my recovered path & a place to reflect my reality.
